Question 2
I am having Major Spark plug problems not to mention power loss in the acceleration .?... I just has a shop put a used engine in the car since my other one got water locked.
Now the car seemed smooth at first and then started shaking and it never had the acceleration like my other engines I had in the car. I mean it would shake like you were on a Harley at times, They told me its nothing. So I leave I fill up my tank all the way on my neon 2001 and drive maybe 40 miles and burned up more then a quarter tank. Which would equal 160miles per tank. I get 300 all day prior to this new engine. So I brought it back in and they told me it was the spark plugs that they installed after they put the engine in. 300 miles driven and the spark plugs looked like they went to hell for a week and came back. They are CHAMPION 3344 the entire curved part and the center spark area. Basically the whole thing after the last thread was completely covered in a dark black. Like a charcoal. then the threading had some discoloration halfway on them and the porcelain part that goes up like an inch long has a dark brownish burn right where it meets the medal on the bottom of the porcelain not the top where the nipple is. I'll see if I can get a pic in.
Well, anyways they put new plugs in and I drive maybe 2 miles max and take a look at the first one only and it was covered in that black charcoal again. I asked them what was wrong they said they don't know it was just the spark plugs. Well i'm wondering whats the problem now. The weak power that this engine gives off is telling me that it is worn. yes the engine is used maybe 70-80k on it but I had 2 prior engines hire miles then that and the 4 banger took off always and got great milage.
New spark plugs did stop the shaking but im sure its a matter of 100 miles before it's a harley again.
I have a warranty on this and am curious if they tell me nothing is wrong what do I do? If I take it to any mechanic besides one of their shops It voids the warranty. So I was thinking about going to another shop of theirs just in another city and get an estimate after I tell them i'm having engine problems and see what they write up on it. Then throw it in their face.
Any help on these questions would be great, Sorry I'm not good with the lingo of every little part on a plug. Thank you and Happy holidays.
I can email you a pick. I'm not sure if you can put one on here, have not figured that out.
Yeah it says> Your warranty will be VOID if you have any repairs, replacements, or adjustments done by any person other than an authorized (Blah blah their place) Sounds like a judge would overturn such a thing. I mean if they say its fine how can I possibly go against their word but to say its not and im just a Chef. I need to be able to take it to another shop if i'm ever going to get this fixed.. would my 02 sensor make my car lack power and burn twice as much gas. I have spoken to other mechanics and they said it would do very little difference in my power and effecting my engine. I have had my check engine light on and it said o2 sensor but the place I got it done said that it might be saying that just because the fuel thats been spitting off. But my last engine I had an 02 sensor out and i ran that cross country numerous times and nothing was wrong, ran perfect. Sure maybe I spit some emissions in the air but that was it.

1) it's legal to take your car just to be looked at somewhere else. also, read the fine print on your warranty. that's unusual that they'd have it say that if anyone other than them worked on your car it would be void. - Jack Notting
2) its running to rich on you, take it and have a shop do a diagnoses on it with a scanner and see if the 0-2 sensors are working right on it,if they aren't that will cause the plugs to foul out like that, that's the most likely cause of the running condition your getting on it,good luck and have a good and safe x-mas. - dodge man
3) All that black stuff on the plugs and the loss of power is from an extreme rich fuel condiion. 2001 has OBD 2 and for whatever reason it doesn't seem to be controlling the engine. You should have a check engineligh on. The rich condition will damage your cat converter before long. - tronary
4) OMG, I just brought a used car in Oct of this year and it's a 98 Dodge and it's having the same problem. Thank you for posting that. And hopefully you will get it fixed and have a great holiday. - Mrs Wright
5) I am thinking o2 sensor also, But who knows what was done to the engine prior to you getting it. Some people will pull plugs and put oil in cylinders to keep engine from seizing if it will be sitting a while. If it came from a salvage yard this is possible. And if plugs werent changed this could of been the problem. - marv

Question 3
Would you rather have the 2010 VW Golf or the Mazda 3 5 door?... And why ?
Answers
1) its tough but i would lean towards the Mazda VW are more expensive to maintain - andre w
2) Definitely the Mazda 3. - Yamamoto
3) Out of the two if i had to have one it would be the Golf,Why my friends have a Mazda 3 5 door at it is rubbish with major faults and what a surprise they are not included in the warranty and the mileage on the car has less than my trainers.
Other personal issues are the seats are to upright and hard the car is to loud inside exhaust wise for the car it is,if it where a sport car i would under stand, power wise is slow to build up and scares my friend to death on big roads as it is to slow to regain power, a common prob she realises now,and people whom have panic and drop gears to add the speed of the power quicker to which has left them with a broken gear box.
Iam a Mazda fan and i was excited for them but even they wish they never bought the car. - tricky
4) VW. they are built with better quality and come with free maintenance! - trackstar92

Question 4
What would cause my 2002 Ford Explorer 4.0 to only get 10 mpg? I've done plugs, wires, airfilter.?...
Answers
1) they're gas guzzling pieces of junk.
also, how's your oil? sludgy oil decreases fuel economy because it causes too much friction against the pistons. you might also have too much onboard weight... do you have alot of tools, subwoofers, or a bullbar? could also be bad gaskets or a whole slew of other things.
explorers are horrible gas guzzlers, though, so it might be natural. fueleconomy.gov lists them as 14 - 16 m/g in the city, also, they were the no. 1 traded in gas guzzler during the CARS program. i'd say just put a bullet in the block and get yourself a prius or a jetta. - Dawn Of Apostasy
2) bad sensor somewhere, or bad wire to a sensor. stupid computer controlled vehicles - Hilljack
3) it could be in limp mode, get it diagonsed...also a heavy foot in town could do it on a high mileage car.. after a run check the wheels for a hot one, that would indicate a dragging brake.. - SVOMAN
4) Make sure you read all the answers written here in answer to your question. If you love this vehicle then be prepared to spend some money. First how many miles? How old is it? Does it burn oil? You replaced plugs, wires and air filter. Lets also replace the distributor cap and coil(it really makes a great difference) and while we are at it lets see if your vacuum advance is functioning(mechanic). Lets have a full diagnostic of all your sensors, check and clean your injectors, clean your throttle body and check your throttle linkage/cable. Now lets check the exhaust system and make sure there are no obstructions and that the catalytic converter is not partially plugged up. A change of oil and filter would be helpful as well as a "leak down test" which determines the compression of your cylinders and can indicate valve problems. Dragging brakes as well as partially engaged parking brake needs to be checked. How about the rear? Any noises, clanking, grinding, etc.? Do you have four wheel drive? Could be a problem with CV joints. Lots to consider and as I said if you love it you fix it and don't look back at the $. If not, get it running and trade it. - M
